Zoo Academy
The Zoo Academy offers high school students the unique opportunity of completing their education in a world-class wildlife facility, The Cincinnati Zoo and Botanical Garden. Graduates are well prepared to continue their studies in college for a professional career in animal care, Veterinary medicine, conservation, horticulture or other animal-related fields. Students in the Zoo Academy attend classes in the CAMAS (Cincinnati Academy of Mathematics and Science) program at Hughes Center the ninth and tenth grades. Juniors and seniors spend part of each day in academic classes and the rest of the day working with zoo personnel on the zoo grounds. Research projects and field studies are important components of the Zoo Academy's educational program.
The academic curriculum includes anatomy and physiology, biology, botany, chemistry, computer technology, English, spanish mathematics, natural resources, physics and zoology.
Zoo work sites include the aquarium, bird house, primate house, elephant house, nocturnal veldt, wildlife canyon and jungle trails. The expert staff includes teachers, zoo keepers and horticulturists.
